Byline: Lenore T. Adkins Daily Herald Staff Writer Seeking a return to its college-town roots, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwich Shops recently moved its Elgin world headquarters to Champaign. Founder and CEO Jimmy John Liautaud announced that the company is heading south to the home of the University of Illinois and its 38,400 hungry students.

Liautaud, who attended Elgin Academy in his youth, started the business in 1983 out of a converted garage in downstate Charleston. He made his name there giving sandwiches away to students enrolled at Eastern Illinois University. In 1993, he opened the company's home office at 600 Tollgate Road in Elgin.
