Byline: Emily Krone Daily Herald Staff Writer Libby Pappalardo intends to spend Saturday marching, Sunday learning non-violent protest techniques and Monday getting arrested. The Crystal Lake resident and busloads of other suburban activists are traveling to Washington, D.C., this weekend for the anti-Iraq war festival that organizers hope will attract tens of thousands of people.
The three-day event features a march past the White House, training in nonviolent civil resistance, grassroots lobbying and a mass act of nonviolent civil disobedience. The plan calls for thousands to surround the White House on Monday and take turns approaching the gate with photographs of American soldiers and Iraqis killed in the war.
