Byline: John Patterson Daily Herald State Government Editor SPRINGFIELD - Rebecca Johnson's junior year at Tulane University was to have started at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Instead she's at her parents' house in Long Grove trying to figure out when she'll be able to get back to the New Orleans campus and what to do with her academic career in the meantime.

"At Tulane there's only an emergency Web site. They can't tell us anything right now, and we just have to keep waiting," said Johnson, 20, a cell and molecular biology major. A message on the school's Web site Thursday said a decision on whether there'd be a fall semester was coming within 48 hours. Similarly, 20-year-old Matthew Meyers was at his parents' Hawthorn Woods home pondering his academic future...
