Byline: Dave Boe While arriving late to the game, Saab ( a division of General Motors) introduced its first sport utility vehicle ever, the all- wheel drive, four-door 9-7X this past May as a 2005 model. The 9-7X joined Saab's lineup that includes the all-wheel drive 9-2X compact four-door wagon (also debuting in the 2005 model year), 9-3 sport sedan and convertible and 9-5 mid-size sedan and wagon.

The 9-7X measures in as a mid-size SUV and comes in two versions; a 4.2I (the 4.2-liter, inline six-cylinder model) and 5.3I (the more potent 5.3-liter V-8 edition). The eight-cylinder edition (300 horsepower) includes something new for 2006, displacement on demand, a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down half of the cylinders when cruising at highway...
