Byline: Barry Rozner Andy MacPhail has always lived his baseball life by the mantra that you never make a decision until it's absolutely necessary. It has served him well for decades in the majors, and you have to wonder if the Cubs president is taking that approach today with his manager and general manager.

A few months back, it was assumed that contract extensions for Dusty Baker and Jim Hendry were a slam-dunk, but now you hear whispers that this may not be the case. That's not to say that MacPhail couldn't turn around tomorrow and grant them both another term with the Cubs, but why would he do it now - or in spring training as has been previously advertised? At this point, it would make sense to wait until the end of next season and see how both...
