State slates $180 million for Tri-Cities road work.(News)

Byline: Josh Stockinger Daily Herald Staff Writer Road projects in the Tri-Cities area would get nearly $180 million in state funds under a six-year highway improvement plan released Friday. The money is part of about $10.4 billion the Illinois Department of Transportation expects to spend on state and local highway enhancements through 2012.
Locally, two of the 10 most expensive projects center on new work to Stearns Road in the South Elgin area. Approximately, $100 million has been earmarked for the project. The state plans to build an $88 million bridge on Stearns Road and also a $10 million extension from Route 25 to Randall Road.
