So it might well be this spring that baseball fans will pay more attention to Grapefruit League and Cactus League games that don't count than to the newest concoction of Major League Baseball: the World Baseball Classic.

MLB is pushing the so-called WBC hard. The 16-nation tournament runs from March 3-20 and spans the globe from the Far East to the Caribbean. The upside is that the World Cup-like event packs the potential of growing baseball globally.
