Byline: John Patterson Daily Herald State Government Editor SPRINGFIELD - A $5,000 donation from a Florida casino owner to the campaign of Democratic state treasurer hopeful Alexi Giannoulias has been returned, a campaign spokesman said Wednesday. "As we found out more ... we thought we should return the check," said Matt Glavin, Giannoulias' campaign spokesman.

The check came from Spiros Naos who owns a fleet of casino cruise ships that have been at the center of a bizarre tale the Daily Herald reported last week. The previous owner was gunned down in an execution-style slaying after selling the gambling fleet to a group that included indicted Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
