Byline: Russell Lissau Daily Herald Staff Writer The two Republican candidates for the 31st state Senate District seat have different stances on legalized gambling in Illinois. Incumbent state Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis wants a casino in Lake County, while challenger Suzanne Simpson said she strongly opposes casino gambling.

Geo-Karis, 87, of Zion, and Simpson, 51, of the Grayslake area, will face off in the March 21 primary. The seat carries a four-year term. Simpson is Warren Township's supervisor and a former state representative. Geo-Karis has held the Senate post since 1979.
