Byline: Dave Heun William Wood certainly appreciated the value of a good book and a park bench to settle into while reading. Students at Hoover-Wood Elementary School in Batavia view that as a pretty good combination, so about 500 of them are donating money for a bench at the school to be built in memory of the school's namesake.
Fifth-graders Nathan Podraza and Morgan Lanham filled me in on this project and shared their interest and appreciation toward Wood, who visited the school often to read his favorite books before his death last June. The commemorative bench is the first project of its type being tackled by the school's Character Council, made up of two students from each third-, fourth- and fifth-grade class.
