To pump up ratings a year ago, the telecast was moved from New York City to Los Angeles, where Hollywood glitz was supposed to stir up excitement.

It didn't. Credit the Desperate Housewives, who collectively trounced the music awards, giving it its worst ratings in show history. This year's solution is moving the show from Sunday to Wednesday, but that's not likely to matter.
