Byline: Dave Boe The Forth Annual Volvo for Life Awards ceremony was held earlier this month in conjunction with the New York Auto Show with a Doctor from Detroit receiving top honors for his philanthropic efforts. Last July, Volvo Cars of North America sent out a national call seeking everyday heroes in three categories (safety, quality of life and environment) through the volvoforlifeawards.com web site.

Volvo received 4,341 nominations with all 50 states represented. In February, the field whittled down to 100 semi-finalists; next, the field was narrowed down to the top three in each category. A top winner from each of the three categories was then determined, each receiving $50,000 to further each of their personal causes. The remaining six finalists...
