Fire death probed: The DuPage County Arson Task Force is investigating a fatal fire that started early Tuesday morning in Elmhurst. Pasquale Cataldi, 58, died shortly after firefighters pulled him from his burning home at 541 Crockett Ave., authorities said. Cataldi's wife, Rosaria, who had escaped the house, was hospitalized in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

Elmhurst firefighters arrived at the brick ranch house at about 3:30 a.m. They rescued Pasquale Cataldi from a front room and had the blaze under control in 10 minutes, Battalion Chief Tim Mahoney said.
