We know you think about it when you drive south along Route 31, particularly between Big Timber Road and Wing Street - when is the state going to resurface this bumpy road? Sorry. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are no current plans to resurface Route 31 in Elgin, says Mike Claffey, a spokesman with the Illinois Department of Transportation.
The road was last resurfaced between the Tollway and Chicago Street in 1994 at the cost of $1.2 million, he said. But on a positive note, as part of the state's multiyear plan, the pock-marked, bumpy Sioux Line Railroad bridge just south of Big Timber Road on 31 will be replaced between 2008 and 2012 at the cost of $1.2 million.
