Dangerous hospital beds: Wouldn't it be awful to be stuck in a hospital bed? Literally? Seeking to reduce the occurrence of hospital bed entrapments, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has set new guidelines for hospital bed manufacturers, according to this month's issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
The guidelines warn of potential problem areas, such as bed rails and gaps between rails and mattresses. In the past 21 years, the FDA has received 700 entrapment reports.
