Byline: Jeff Newton Daily Herald Correspondent Little did Fremd senior Nick Mitchell know he was about to roll into the storied history of throwers at the Palatine school. But he did just that at the state track and field championships at O'Brien Stadium at Eastern Illinois University. With his first throw of 57-feet, 8 3/4 inches in Friday's Class AA prelims, Mitchell moved into sixth place all-time in the shot put record books at Fremd.

Now that might not seem like much, but when you consider the top five is filled with some of the best throwers Illinois has ever seen - Mitchell is now in pretty elite company.
