Byline: Madhu Krishnamurthy Daily Herald Staff Writer Lake Zurich village officials say they will ask the state to help pay for clean up of a storm water detention basin from which silt has been draining into Lake Zurich. The primary source of the silt was traced to the Illinois Department of Transportation's Route 22 bypass construction site near Genesee Street.
Sludge has been draining off and on from the site into the village's Mionske Pond and then into Lake Zurich since mid-March. IDOT was cited by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for the violation. It installed more silt filter fencing to curb runoff. "IDOT has created the situation.
