Byline: Emily Krone Elgin area education bigwigs met this week with U.S. Department of Education regional representative Kristine Cohn at Judson College. Cohn told the group - which included Elgin Community College President Mike Shirley, McHenry County Assistant Superintendent Joe Williams and Elgin Area School District U-46 officials - that she's the "eyes and ears" of the Bush administration in local schools.
And Cohn got an earful from U-46 folks. U-46 attorney Pat Broncato appealed to Cohn to change the way sanctions are imposed on schools that fail to meet state standards under the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
