Byline: Joseph Ryan Daily Herald Staff Writer Both Congresswoman Melissa Bean and Republican challenger David McSweeney are running TV ads that call the other's advertising a "lie" and a "gross misrepresentation." The latest is a McSweeney ad attacking Bean on Social Security reform, saying she will cut benefits and raise Social Security taxes.
The AARP is coming to the Barrington Democrat's defense and plans a rebuttal mailing to its 50,000 members in the 8th Congressional District saying McSweeney's ad is misleading. At the same time, a Bean ad uses the comments of a newspaper columnist to say the "press" called McSweeney's ad on illegal immigration a "gross misrepresentation."
