Byline: Daily Herald staff reports The Courier News of Elgin appears to be on the verge of being sold again. The pending sale actually would be a swap of two newspapers fighting apparent decline - Elgin's Courier in exchange for the Chronicle in Geneva, according to numerous sources associated with both companies.

The 132-year-old Courier News, sold only six years ago as part of a package by Copley Newspapers to what is now the Sun-Times News Group, would be traded to Dixon-based Shaw Newspapers. The Kane County Chronicle, created by Shaw in 1990 out of a collection of weekly papers it had purchased the year before, would be traded to the Sun-Times group. It is unclear what would happen to the staffs at the two newspapers, but some jobs are not...
