Byline: Steve Zalusky Daily Herald Staff Writer Tom Conway had an insatiable appetite for history. He fed that appetite through teaching, writing and volunteering. The 68-year-old Mount Prospect resident died Monday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, after a nearly nine-year battle with cancer.

Conway, born in Kankakee, had a passion for history that led him to earn a bachelor's degree from Loyola University and a master's degree from Southern Illinois University. He earned his doctorate from Loyola and also taught at Loyola's Rome Center in Rome, Italy. In 1971, Conway was one of the first to join the faculty at Oakton Community College.
