Melissa B. Ballard of South Elgin Visitation for Melissa B. Ballard, 27, will be from 4 p.m. to the time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. today, at Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St., Elgin. The Rev. Daren Mitchell will be officiating. Burial will be in Hamtown Cemetery, in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Feb. 10, 1979, in Elgin, to Steven and Mylene Streeter Mayes, she passed away Saturday, Oct. 28, at University of Chicago Hospital. Melissa was a graduate of Elgin Larkin High School in 1997 and was presently attending Elgin Community College. She was an avid animal lover, NASCAR fan and professional wrestling enthusiast.
