Byline: Russell Lissau Daily Herald Staff Writer The Lake County Forest Preserve District is poised to make its most expensive purchase ever by acquiring a Mundelein-area golf course for $14.5 million, authorities confirmed Tuesday. Plans call for the 145-acre Four Winds Golf Club to become part of the Lakewood Forest Preserve, which already is the district's largest property.
If the purchase is approved later this month, district leaders will close the 18-hole course and make the land available for hiking, fishing or other activities. Officials are particularly excited because the deal would keep the property, which had been publicly up for sale, from being developed by home builders.
