Byline: Mick Zawislak Daily Herald Staff Writer The charm of two log homes along the Des Plaines River couldn't outweigh the difficulty of removing them, so demolition is all the remains for rustic structures. No bids were received Thursday at a long-awaited auction of the vacant homes.
As a result, the Illinois Department of Transportation will end up paying to have them torn down. "It's unfortunate," said IDOT spokesman Mike Claffey.
