Byline: Mike Miazga Daily Herald Correspondent Longtime Northwestern baseball coach Paul Stevens can think of a number of reasons why former Hampshire three-sport star Jake Goebbert's college baseball debut recently was a successful one. "Any day you can come out and hit .500 at Texas Tech in 17- degree wind chill with guys throwing in the 90s and still be able to put the ball in play the way he did, that's impressive," laughed Stevens.
And indeed Goebbert's first foray in college baseball was a memorable one. Goebbert, a freshman first baseman, had 7 hits in 14 at-bats at the season-opening Red Raider Classic in Lubbock, Tex.
