Lake Zurich gets tough with IDOT on cleanup.(News)

Byline: Madhu Krishnamurthy Daily Herald Staff Writer Lake Zurich is trying to pressure the Illinois Department of Transportation to fix a problem created by construction of its Route 22 bypass through town. The village is withholding $205,000 it owes IDOT for utility work, a sidewalk and bike path along the bypass until the state tackles overdue cleanup of Mionske Pond.

IDOT is responsible for silt runoff since last spring from its bypass construction site off Genessee Street into the pond and the village's namesake lake. IDOT was cited by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. EPA for the runoff.
