Byline: Mick Zawislak Daily Herald Staff Writer A Lake County landmark went down without incident Monday, methodically splintered and ripped away without protest. Generations of memories crumbled as the Half Day Inn was demolished. Once the center of activity at a busy crossroad, it is being removed to clear the way for an upscale gateway project at routes 45 and 21.
Previous owners had played up the history of the original stagecoach stop, inn and tavern catering to early travelers. Said to have been built in 1843, it was touted as the oldest building in Lake County that had ...
