Cardinal Health reaches deal for Viasys.(Business)

Byline: Mike Comerford mcomerford@@dailyherald.com Cardinal Health Inc. said Monday it has agreed to acquire Viasys Healthcare Inc. for $1.45 billion. The purchase adds to Cardinal Health's line of respiratory-care products used in hospitals and expands global sales, according to the Dublin, Ohio-based company, the second-largest U.S.

drug distributor. The move could also boost Chicago-area operations, according to Geoffrey Fenton, spokesman for Cardinal Health. "Our medical processes unit is here, so they'll have ultimate oversight of (Viasys') medical processes," Fenton said. "And our respiratory business is here. And (Viasys) has that also." Local Cardinal Health operations include more than 3,000 workers from Waukegan to Aurora, Fenton said....
