And in the case of Villa Park's sanitary sewer system, there likely will be $4 million in repairs over a two-year period. Throughout designated sections of the village, Villa Park is conducting smoke testing to search for defects within the village's aged sewer system.

In March, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency cited the village for re-occurring problems with backups in basements and outdoor manhole overflows dating back to January 2005 and including October and December 2006. It also told village officials they must begin work on a project that will include a relief sanitary sewer on Myrtle Avenue, south of Julia Drive, which the village...
