Energy researchers are doing their part So where do we stand today on a new federal energy policy as gas prices have again jumped at the pump? Well, we find lobbyists putting a lot of energy into defeating the energy bill Congressional Democrats have in mind, according to the Associated Press.

Giant electric utility companies in the South are complaining that there is no way they can meet a requirement in the proposed bill to produce 15 percent of their power from renewable energy. Not without huge increases in the cost of electricity to their customers, anyway. Automakers are saying there is no way they can meet the fuel efficiency standards demanded in the legislation - 35 miles per gallon for cars and trucks by 2020, or an increase of 10 miles per gallon...
