Byline: Joseph Ryan jryan@@dailyherald.com As a severe storm pounded O'Hare International Airport on Wednesday, a jumbo jet clipped a smaller plane on the tarmac, taking a chunk out of its tail rudder. No injuries were reported. The incident occurred at 3:50 p.m. when a United Airlines Boeing 777, which was carrying 347 passengers, was moving on a holding pad and its wing clipped the tail of an American Airlines MD-80 carrying 136 passengers and five crew members.

The Boeing 777's wing tip ripped into the rudder of the American Airlines jet, said American spokeswoman Mary Frances Fagan. But the specific extent of the damage was not disclosed Wednesday. The tarmac accident occurred as severe thunderstorms raked the suburbs and caused at least 350...
