Byline: Bruce Miles bmiles@@dailyherald.com Kudos to the Cubs for aggressively pursuing their case for pitcher Ted Lilly. Umpires foolishly threw Lilly out of Sunday night's nationally televised game in Atlanta after Lilly hit the Braves' Edgar Renteria with a pitch in the first inning.
Yes, home-plate umpire Jim Wolf was at fault and should be disciplined for throwing common sense out the window and tossing Lilly. Lilly's pitch looked to be purposeful, as did Tim Hudson's the night before, when he plunked Alfonso Soriano with the first toss of the game. Hudson was given only a warning.
