Herbert Powell formerly of Itasca Private family services for Herbert Powell, 85, of Peoria, formerly of Itasca and Venice, Fla., will be held Saturday, July 14, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton, Ill., with the Rev. Jeff Anderson officiating. Born March 1, 1922, in Chicago, to Oscar and Emily Schmidt, he died at 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his home in Lutheran Hillside Village. Herbert married Shirley Glaesel on July 1, 1944, in Oak Park. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, where he served as a B-24 pilot in Italy. He worked for 35 years at Allstate Insurance, retiring in 1985.
