Now, what do you do with all those vegetables and herbs? If you have a bounty of vegetables, you probably already have your favorite tomato sauce, zucchini bread and pickles.

But there is a limit even for standbys and only so much space for storage. Lacking the availability of the old root cellars, root vegetables can be stored right where they grow until late fall or early winter. Cover them with a thick layer of mulch to protect them from an early deep freeze. Harvest when ready to use. Try making some jams with excess fruit or herbs. Even the old- fashioned ripe...
