If you care, get out your walking shoes This June, I was able to realize a longtime dream by walking in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Breast cancer is a disease that touches almost everyone in some way. As a waitress at Paul's Family Restaurant in Elgin, I was deeply affected when my boss and friend, Stella Paul, was diagnosed with this disease in 2000.

I'm happy to say she is now in remission and doing well. To participate in the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, you need to raise a minimum of $1,800, which is used to help with their mission of providing access to care and finding a cure.
