Charles J. Martin of Libertyville Charles J. Martin passed away after a brief illness. Charles was born on Dec. 5, 1921, in New Castle, Pa., the son of Charles Peter Martin, a railroad carpenter, and Laura Mae Hopper He was raised in the Great Depression in a small house on Electric St., eventually graduating from New Castle Senior High School after enduring a struggle with osteomyelitis that would define his life and shape his character.

Charles then attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning a B.S. in chemistry in 1944, and meeting his future bride, Virginia Elizabeth Greer, a student at the New Castle School of Nursing. They were married on Dec. 8, 1945, in the United Presbyterian Church of New Castle, and had recently celebrated their 62nd wedding...
