Sherman Hunter of Elgin Services for Sherman Hunter will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park St., Elgin. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, at the funeral home. Sherman was born April 8, 1916, in Canton, Miss., the son and youngest of seven children of Viola and Henry Hunter, and passed away Saturday, March 15, 2008.
In 1937, he came to Elgin where he worked as a U.S. Postal Service employee. He became the oldest member of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees).
