Sprint to Help Tourists Lost in Florida. (Originated from The Orlando Sentinel, Fla.)

Aug. 18--Sprint/United Telephone-Florida on Tuesday announced it would become the nation's first telephone company to offer directions by phone to tourists or anyone else who's lost, and it is pioneering the service in Orlando.

The automated service will enable callers to phone "TeleMap" any time, day or night, from United phones in the area and receive explicit directions on how to reach their destination in the Orlando area.

TeleMap was tested in Orlando last year during a six-month pilot project in conjunction with the American Automobile Association, but this is the first major commercial application of the technology, said Anthony Volpe,

executive vice president of Wayfinder Inc., the Chestnut Ridge, N.Y., company that provides the service....
