Sep. 17--Pele was there, in the form of a life-size, cardboard cutout. So was Striker, the official mascot dog of the 1994 World Cup soccer tournament.

The place was the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, and the event was a business seminar of sorts Wednesday on ways to capitalize on the 1994 World Cup games that will come to the New York-New Jersey area next year.

"The bottom line is, there will be millions of dollars that will multiply and stay in this community," said Mava Heffler, a vice president of MasterCard International, which is spending an estimated $75 million as an official four-year sponsor of the World Cup.
