Carnival Hopes to Lure More Europeans via Greek Cruise Line. (Originated from The Miami Herald)

Apr. 1--Carnival Corp. boosted its stake in the budding European cruise market Thursday, upping its ownership in the Greek cruise line Epirotiki Lines to 43 percent.
Epirotiki is considered the second-largest European-based cruise company,
after Italy's Costa Crociere, and the largest cruise line in the Aegean Sea and eastern Mediterranean. Epirotiki operates 12 ships and carried 84,000 passengers in 1992 out of Pireaus, the port of Athens.
Miami-based Carnival is the world's largest cruise company and operates primarily in North America. It carried 1.2 million passengers in 1993.
