Toy Industry Hopes for "Lion King" Fad. (Originated from The Boston Globe)

June 25--On the day that Disney Co. released "The Lion King," Eric Adler of Quincy had no time for Simba and his obligatory crew of lovable sidekicks. As far as Adler was concerned, plush toys of Simba were as uninteresting as purple Barneys or the dinosaurs of "Jurassic Park," two toys from last year that became fads as brief as they were intense.

Celebrating his fifth birthday at a local Toys 'R' Us, Adler ignored "The Lion King" display near the store's entrance. This birthday boy only had eyes for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

"He thinks he's a ranger himself," said his mother, Anita. Will "The Lion King'' be the latest thing? Will it turn Barney to rubble, eclipsing Flintstone figurines as well? Possibly. But Simba and company will be hard-pressed to...
