Alaska's Cook Inlet Region Inc. Looks to Enter Coal-Mining Business.(Originated from Anchorage Daily News)

Apr. 27--Cook Inlet Region Inc. is looking to get into the coal-mining business by negotiating to take over an undeveloped coal project from a Japanese company.

Early this month, CIRI and Idemitsu Alaska Inc. signed a letter saying they will negotiate a deal involving the Wishbone Hill coal project near Palmer. Although they wouldn't discuss specifics, officials on both sides said they hope to have an agreement in June.

David Germer of McKinley Mining Consultants is the local project manager of Wishbone Hill. He confirmed the talks but said he couldn't offer any details.
