U.S.-British Deal Would Let British Airways Add Philadelphia Service.(Originated from The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Jun. 1--The U.S. and British governments hope to strike a deal this week to let British Airways operate two flights a day between Philadelphia and London, a service expected to be so popular it could take two 747 jumbo jets to meet the demand, the airline's chairman said Wednesday.

The U.S.-British aviation accord, which government officials say should be signed in Washington Thursday or Friday, would settle part of a long- simmering dispute between the two countries over airline service.

Besides allowing the flights between Philadelphia and London's Heathrow Airport, key provisions of the deal would let British Air and USAir expand their marketing alliance and award United Airlines a long-sought Chicago- London route, government and airline officials...
