America Online Studies Ogden, Utah, as Possible Customer-Service Center.(Originated from The Salt Lake Tribune)

July 12--The computer network America Online is studying Ogden as the site of its next customer-service center. The on-line service may buy the old Ernst store in the Ogden Plaza at 23rd Street and Lincoln Avenue, one of three sites under consideration.

America Online had renovation plans approved by the Ogden City Planning Commission earlier this month, said Mayor Glenn Mecham. But that does not commit the company to Ogden.

"It doesn't mean they will build," Mecham said. "But if their interest wasn't serious, we wouldn't have moved to this stage."

America Online spokesman Stuart Wetstein said the company will decide where to locate the new center in a few months. The Vienna, Va., company likes Ogden for its "mixture of a strong technical labor pool...
