Denver International Airport a Mixed Blessings for Transportation Providers.(Originated from Daily Camera, Boulder, Colo.)

Oct. 24--The half dozen or so van, cab and limo companies who carry Boulder County residents to and from Denver International Airport say the new airport has generated lots of new business, but for some it has also brought rapidly rising costs and security hassles.

Longmont-based Elegante Limousine, for example, provides service for a variety of events, but its airport business has increased the most, showing a 40 percent rise since DIA opened. The added overhead costs involved with making trips to DIA, however, led the company to raise rates in June, from $82 to $89 for a one-way trip.

"An increase in calls has offset some of these costs, but not all," said Tom Martinez, who owns Elegante Limousine with his wife, Debbie.
