Analyst Says Novell Can Heal Quickly.(Originated from The Salt Lake Tribune)

computer company will absorb hundreds of millions in losses to split from its flagging desktop software business. Novell Inc. wants to part ways with the remnants of WordPerfect Corp. within 80 days.
Those with personal connections to the homegrown companies remain a bit jittery. Who is a likely buyer? Will jobs move out-of-state? How many of the 1,800 jobs affected will move to a different division at Novell?
But uncertainty like that appears to be minority reaction. Many observers seem to think Novell is right in shifting course.
"For Novell, it's back to the future," says Peter Rogers, a computer- industry analyst with New Jersey-based Bear, Stearns Co.
