ATLANTA--Nov. 29--Southern Co. is among the nation's eight "worst corporate polluters," according to an environmental group, which cites emissions from the company's coal-fired power plants.
The Atlanta-based company took sharp issue with the Council on Economic Priorities' conclusions Wednesday. The New York-based nonprofit activist group included Southern in its annual survey for the second year in a row.
The council "is mistaken about our environmental record," said A.W. "Bill" Dahlberg, Southern chairman, president and chief executive officer.
