PNC Bank to Move Headquarters to Downtown Philadelphia.(Originated from The Philadelphia Inquirer)

PHILADELPHIA--Dec. 18--PNC Bank will move its Philadelphia-area headquarters and 1,200 employees to 1600 Market St., a 40-story black-glass tower that's nicknamed the "Darth Vader Building."

Employees will begin moving in during the second quarter of next year, and the move should be complete by the end of 1997, according to the bank. PNC has a 15-year lease on 300,000 square feet of office space, plus the lobby area.

"This move, combined with our acquisitions in this region and our continuing exploration for a new operations center, demonstrates our commitment to becoming the leading financial-services provider in Greater Philadelphia and in New Jersey," said Thomas H. O'Brien, chairman and CEO of PNC Bank Corp.
