Jan. 9--Two Smith's Food & Drug Centers will be sold and another closed in Riverside County as the company shuts down its Southern California operations.
The store in Riverside will become a Ralphs, and the Smith's in Hemet is being sold to the company that owns Lucky Food Centers, according to Shelley Thomas, a Smith's spokesperson. The Moreno Valley store will be closed, she said.
The 100 Moreno Valley employees will receive 60-days pay from Monday, the date of the announcement, and will be advised of other opportunities in the company, Thomas said. The Moreno Valley store will close in mid-February, she said.
The Riverside and Hemet employees will be invited to be interviewed by the stores' new owners, she said.
