Dallas Ad Agency Furious Over Intuit's Act of Plagiarism.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

Jan. 14--Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but it's not necessarily the most desired. Just ask John Rizzuti. He's steaming over what he calls "the most blatant case of plagiarism I've ever seen."

Rizzuti, managing director of a Dallas ad agency, is upset with Intuit Inc., a Mountain View company that makes personal finance software. An ad that Intuit prepared in-house for its Quicken Expensable product in December closely mimicked the look and feel of an ad Rizzuti's agency did more than a year earlier for QuickXpense, a product made by Portable Software Corp. of Bellevue, Wash.

"The ad is an obvious rip-off," said Jerry Gibbons, senior vice president of the American Association of Advertising Agencies.
